ABOUT US

Jeevan Lok Nirman Sansthan has been working with poor and marginalised people in India since 2017. We work in Haryana's most backward region i.e., Mewat region in the sub-divisional area of Hathin which is currently positioned in the Palwal district and earlier it was in the Mewat district. Hathin is also the operational area of Mewat Development Agency. Although we are operationally limited to Hathin because of our limited financial capacity and resources. In the days ahead, we are aspired to expand our activities to all States, UTs, reaching out to the most marginalized and excluded groups in India as per the aspirational demands of NITI Aayog, Government of India from time to time. We work as grassroots based organization, help marginalized communities to enhance their capacities to make local government departments accountable and citizen friendly and to build their own forums, and community-based organizations and people's movements to collectively address poverty, inequality and injustice.
Our focus is on the rights of India's most marginalized communities: Dalit and indigenous people, rural and urban poor, women, children and minorities. These groups face an acute lack of access to and control over resources, services, and institutions and our efforts are to equip them with knowledge about their rights and develop capacities in them to demand their constitutional rights.
We are highly ambitious to pay special attention to those in vulnerable situations, such as people living with chronic hunger; people with disabilities; migrant and bonded workers; children who are out of school; city-dwellers without a home; and people whose land or livelihood is under threat. We will also work with women, men, girls and boys who have been trafficked, displaced, or hit by natural and human-made disasters. .

OUR GENESIS

In 2017, a group of highly ambitious and likeminded youths for social change- who had Mewat as their homeland and Jamia Millia Islamia as their Alma mater-came together to set up a government registered humanitarian aid and development organization to end poverty, inequality, injustice and to achieve United Nation's development goals with the scope of national level area of intervention.
Jeevan Lok Nirman Sansthan was founded in 2017 to enable people to respond to and change their situations of poverty, inequality and injustice. We focus on education and awareness, community involvement and collective action as the driving forces of social and economic change.
'Jeevan Lok Nirman Sansthan' which means 'Public Life Care Foundation' - consists of a dedicated team of grassroots leaders chosen by the communities and facilitated by a group of development professionals. Our work is guided by the philosophy that a person should not be treated as a passive beneficiary of a handout; rather, we believe they should be seen as a potential resource, someone who can be honed with the skills and knowledge that will help lift them out of poverty, inequality and injustice.

OUR MISSION

"To address discrimination and injustice in all its forms and to work in solidarity with the poor and excluded and participate, facilitate in their struggle to eradicate poverty, social exclusion and injustice."

OUR VISION

"To create a world of hope and opportunities; advancing empowerment and social justice, where poverty, social exclusion and injustice have been overcome and in which every person enjoys the right to life with honourable existence and dignity"
In pursuit of this vision, our Sansthan works to enable people facing inequality and injustice to help themselves. We aim to strengthen ties in local communities so that people can work together to bring about positive changes in their lives. We particularly encourage women to participate in this process, as they are the most marginalized, downtrodden and powerless social group in India. Our Sansthan gives them the opportunity to develop their decision-making skills and leadership capacity so that they can address the issues affecting their lives. Playing the role of catalysts, we help to implement sustainable development processes that will make communities self-sufficient in the long term.

OUR OVERALL GOAL

A just social order brought about by the dispossessed claiming their right to dignity and identity through enhanced democratic participation and structural transformation.

OUR CORE STRATEGIES

  • Enhancing local capacity to address developmental needs and ensuring appropriate access to entitlements thereby developing community-based systems and mechanisms;
  • Engaging with institutions for accountability, thereby developing operational partnership and collaboration to ensure access of partner communities to entitlements;
  • Experimenting and developing child and women-centred development processes for broader replication;
  • Developing experience-based knowledge management model, thereby working out training programmes for sharing of knowledge with development workers, academician, government departments and development professionals.

Development and strengthening of CBOs
We enhance local capacity by organizing local communities in the form of community-based institutions having proper vision of development, due awareness and indigenously developed community-based systems and mechanisms to achieve the vision. These institutions include collectives of children, adolescents and adults which are formed at village level and are later networked into federations at cluster, block and district level.
Convergence
We engage with local service providers and democratic institutions like schools, health centers, government officials, elected representatives, etc., through constructive and innovative ways to build their capacity and bridge gap between them and the community so that their services become available to community in qualitative and effective manner and democratic system at grassroots level is strengthened.
Networking & Advocacy
We network with other civil society organizations for mutual sharing of experiences and learning, and collectively engage with policy makers for addressing developmental issues at wider level.
Research & Documentation
We undertake researches and documentation aimed at improving our understanding of situation, learning how to improve the situation and sharing the same with others for wider knowledge development and use.

TRUST AND RESPECT

At Jeevan Lok Nirman Sansthan, we promote trust and respect among our stakeholders, partners, employees and beneficiaries. We seek to honour each individual impacted by the work of our organization and the environment in which we all live.

OUR APPROACH

Our Sansthan has worked in charity mode, development mode as well as rights-based mode in past. Through our experience, we learnt that in the country full of diversity, single approach may not be able to provide solutions to complex socio-economic issues. The organization, therefore, started experimenting with mix of approaches that gradually took shape of Model Development Approach. In this, we try to analyse the problem and understand root causes and then develop and demonstrate solution for resolving complex social issues by addressing all the dimensions of the problem simultaneously. To ensure that the model is duly developed, documented and disseminated, we lay high emphasis upon defining the processes of working, planning, implementation and monitoring elaborately in written form, abiding by them in strict manner and reviewing them from time to time. We believe that if process of working is not right, the true change that we aim to achieve will not materialize. Our innovative system of Stakeholder-wise Milestone based planning, implementation and monitoring, under which quarterly milestones of changes for each type of stakeholders are defined in advance and pursued, has proved to be very effective in achieving the desired change in each of the stakeholders in the long run; and hence, ensuring desired impact in the situation.
